A Happy 4th July to everyone in the US for today.
This is my 3rd post in the List Building Mistakes to Avoid series, today I want to talk about tracking & testing.
Not Tracking & Testing
When I first started building a list, I never really tracked the response of my list – I had no idea how many people where clicking on the links, so I had no idea if . . .
1 My emails were not getting the message across
2 The offers I was sending where not the right offers for my subscribers.
If you don’t track and test, you have no idea what is working and what needs more work.
Many AutoResponder services offer link tracking so you can see how many people are clicking on your links. Some also offer open rate tracking – how many people are actually opening your emails – but you usually need to send HTML emails for that function to
work, and not everyone can view HTML emails with their email client.
If you don’t want to use the built-in feature with your AutoResponder, you can try out a product like AdTrackz.com. Products like this are sometimes more effective because you can control the way your link looks.
You can use their rescources to make a more attractive link, and tests have shown that more people will click on this link as opposed to the built-in feature from your AutoResponder.
Now that you’re tracking your links and you know how many people are clicking on your links, you can then test to see if one writing style works better than another, or you’ll know if you’re just promoting the wrong thing.
Always test and track – your results can only improve if you have more information at your disposal.
Do you track & test your emails? do you use your autoresponder for this? or another source? I would love to hear from you so as always please leave your comments below.
To your success
Thanks for reading

Hi Pauline,
Tracking and testing is so important so you learn from missteps, and leverage on what works well.
I like the idea of using an external tool, as you might be using different autoresponders for different niches.
Have a fantastic day.

Yes we can learn and adjust our mistakes through tracking & testing our emails, it is so important but some people do not know this so hopefully this post will help!
Hope you have a great day too

Hi Pauline,
Great stuff here!
I didn’t start looking at opens and clicks until this year. It is important to see if your list is responding to your emails.
I also use AdTrackz to track other things besides email analytics.
Once you start building your list and promoting products all “intelligence” you can get will help you create a better business.

Hi Trevor
Yes we all need to know if our subscribers are actually opening and responding to our emails, so tracking is important in order to see what is working and what is not!
Hope you have a great day
