Welcome to Part 4 of my series of List Building Mistakes To Avoid, today I would like to rell you why you need to continue to build your list.
Not Continuing To Build Your List
This might seem like common sense, but it is easy to get a decent sized mailing list, and then scale back your list building efforts. This is never a good idea, but unfortunately, it’s something that I think many of us have done on more than one occasion in the past.
Here’s what happens when you stop building your list –
1 People unsubscribe
2 The people who remain on your list have already seen most of your products
3 Your list stops growing
People unsubscribe from your list – there is really nothing you can do about this, and you should not spend any time worrying about it, it’s going to happen.
You always want to have a steady stream of new subscribers coming in to replace those who unsubscribe, and keep adding new prospects. This will help keep your list fresh and responsive.
Never stop building your list. ALWAYS, build your mailing list, never be content
that you reached a certain goal or milestone, keep pushing for the next level.
What do you do if you find that your list building efforts have stalled, and your steady flow of new subscribers turns to a very slow trickle?
There are plenty of options
First, go find a few ad swap partners to give your list an instant boost.
Ad swaps do two things – first (and the most obvious), they can quickly revitalize your list and give you a large influx of new subscribers. But, it can also help by rejuvenating an old and dying mailing list.

Some mailing lists simply die because you send nothing but ad after ad after ad, and nothing in the way of valuable content or free gifts. As we all know, people love their free gifts. By doing a few ad swaps, you will most likely be sending your current mailing list a few free gifts, and this can do wonders for you list all by itself.
After you send a few free offers (even ones that have an upsell that you make money on) you could very well see an increase in response rate and revenue. Plus, the new subscribers from the ad swaps is a quick fix to your problems.
Another thing you can do is to join a few giveaways – a giveaway is basically when you join several other like-minded marketers to give everyone a free gift in exchange for you joining your mailing list. This is another quick fix, since you could have several dozen people promoting the giveaway page, and by default, promoting your free gift that builds your mailing list.
Same concept as with ad swaps, just a slightly different way of achieving the results.
Put together a free offer that has a high converting upsell, and find affiliates and JV Partners to promote the free offer. This is often the quickest way to add the highest number of new subscribers possible.
This is because you are giving the people who promote your offer the chance to earn some extra cash, where ad swaps usually are done without an affiliate link of any kind.
So continue to grow that list of yours and you will see the results, if you have any thoughts or more advice then please leave your comments below as always I would love to hear from you.
To your success

Hi Ian

Yes you should give ad swaps & giveaways a go, they are a great way to build your list, sometimes with giveaways you will get a few “freebie seekers” subscribing but there are more genuine people who will sign up and will remain loyal to you.
I was very happy to including you in my Friday Shout out last week, I like to share with my readers
Have a great day

I haven’t used some of the things you mentioned. I have a series that is sent to them when they first sign up and then they receive my blog posts & a mthly newsletter.

Hi Shawn
Do you email your list on other occasions ie: when you have something special to give them? or a free report? or do you include those things in your newsletter?
Thanks for stopping by, hope you have a great weekend

I’m just finishing a giveaway I’ve been part of for several weeks, which was the first one I had participated in. Although I was able to add some new subscribers to my list, the structure of the giveaway still made it easier for those who already had a list to reap the benefits: The quality of the item being given away doesn’t have as much impact if the promotion of the items in the giveaway still doesn’t give visibility to your gift. I do think that the effort was worthwhile, however.
Have you had challenges finding others who are willing to participate in Ad Swaps? I have sensed that many are concerned that will have a negative rather than positive impact on their list…

Great news that you added new subscribers to your list with the giveaway, I have not taken part in one for a while so must get around to joining one soon! I just need to find a great new product to giveaway lol
So far my experience with ad swaps have been positive, how about yourself?
Hope you have a great weekend

Hi Pauline,
I do agree with you, I think this is the biggest mistake to not continuing the building email list.
I think I have to read all the parts of listing building.
thanks, anyway.

Yes you must continue to build those relationships with your list so you have to contact them on a regular basis, even if it is just a “Hi hope you are ok” type of mail it keeps you in their minds.
Hope you enjoy the rest of the series so far!
Have a great weekend

Hi Pauline,
Great advice here and I’ve fallen into this trap more times then I care to admit. That was back when I didn’t know what I was doing really. I was just told to build a list, not what to do with it once I had it.
Just resurrecting a dying one, those are great tips. I never personally had much luck with giveaways but that’s how I’ve been taught really to explode your list so obviously I was still in that no knowing how to really do it phase.
Really great advice here and I hope most people won’t need it. Their list is growing, they just need some new ideas that’s all.
Enjoy your weekend and thanks again.

Hi Adrienne
I think when we all first started out building our lists we thought we add people and then not have to do much after that but as we know that is not the case! Building some solid relationships with our subscribers is so very important, so hopefully like you say most people will not need this advice but for any newbies out there hope it will help them!
Have a great weekend

Hi Pauline
My list isn’t that big at the moment as I’ve not been building it for too long but I definitely think Giveaways can be a great way to bring more people to your list.
I’ve only tried a couple of Giveaways and got a few new people added. Maybe it’s time for another one.
My list isn’t really big enough for an ad swap yet. I’m not going to go down that route for a while anyway. It would concern me about the quality of the other person’s offer as well!
Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend.

Hi Tim
I would continue with giveaways to build your list and when it gets bigger you can then maybe try ad swaps as another way to increase your list.
I need to join a few more giveaways myself as I have not been involved for a little while!
Have a great weekend too
